Who we are
WE BREAKRECORDS.
We are not a booking agency and we are not one DJ's brand. We are a coalition: mixtape, satellite radio and syndicated radio DJs, organized in 2005 by DJ Whoo Kid, the G-Unit and Shade 45 name, and Akio “AK” Watson, a former label promotions executive who knew exactly what a record needs to move.
Our model has not changed since the mixtape era. Put a record in our hands, the streets get it first, and the same names carry it onto FM and satellite radio in more than one market at once. In 2010 New Industry Tips put us on its Top 5 Urban DJ Coalitions list. The remix side never stopped either: our bio says kings and queens, and the tape below proves it.
- 01
The streets
Mixtape DJs first. We date ourselves back to '96, and breaking a record still starts hand to hand.
- 02
The airwaves
Shade 45 on SiriusXM, our Shakedown on Foxy 106.9 St. Louis, Tropical Pulse on Irie 98 FM Bermuda. Two of them every Saturday, the third every second Tuesday.
- 03
Everywhere at once
One record, many markets: NYC, Connecticut, St. Louis, the Twin Cities, Bermuda. That is what breaking means.
“The Shadyville DJs have the streets, we can take you from the streets to radio.”
Who put us together
Two founders
DJ Whoo Kid@djwhookidCo-founder
G-Unit's mixtape architect and the Shade 45 name our bio still points Saturdays at. He is the reason a record put in our hands lands on satellite radio the same week.

Our standing slots
Three stations, two countries
A coalition is only worth what it can put a record in front of. This is our standing footprint: satellite, St. Louis FM and Bermuda FM, on one name.
The run
Thirty years on the record
We were founded in 2005, allied with Violator by 2008, on New Industry Tips’ Top 5 Urban DJ Coalitions list by 2010, and we are still cutting tapes and holding Saturday night. Every row below opens the page that published it.
- '96Where we start the storyBreakin' and leakin' records since 96', in our own words, on the SoundCloud profile we still run today. The press dates the organization to 2005; the instinct is a decade older.
- 2005We are foundedDJ Whoo Kid, G-Unit's mixtape architect, and former label promotions exec Akio “AK” Watson organize us: a coalition of mixtape, satellite radio and syndicated radio DJs across the globe.
- 2008The Violator allianceWe join forces with the Violator All Star DJs to break records simultaneously from the streets to radio. AllHipHop calls it two of the strongest DJ organizations in hip hop, and Akio's line about the streets comes from that story.

The story
We are thirty years deep, and every claim on this page checks out.
We are what a mixtape crew looks like when it grows up and refuses to slow down. DJ Whoo Kid, the G-Unit and Shade 45 name, and promo exec Akio “AK” Watson co-founded us in 2005. By 2010 New Industry Tips had us on its Top 5 Urban DJ Coalitions list, and we had allied with Violator's DJs to break records from the streets to radio.
What we are in 2026 is not a memory of that run; it is the same machine with new hands on it. Six of us share one tape, three radio stations in two countries carry our name, two of them every Saturday night, and our dates run from Shopify's New York space to a Red Bull sponsored block party in Queens.
For years our old domains have pointed everywhere but home. This page is our one working address on the web: every number on it was read off a live platform, and every claim links to the page that published it.
